Now that the book is assembled and nearly finished is time to look at the details.
First of all, I have finally decided to keep the title as "On the same boat". I was tempted to change it into "In the same boat", since that's how the correct idiom is, but I did not really like it visually and, furthermore, the meaning is slightly different. To me, you can be "on" the same boat without necessarily being "in" the same one. With this I mean that the people in my book and every migrant are in similar situation, but still very different. So I took this "poetic license" and everybody supported me in this decision.

For the Italian version, I decided to keep the title in English as well. I think that it makes sense not to translate it, since it states from the very beginning the link that my project has with England.
Another issue in my book that Julia picked out during the last group feedback, is the repetition of Vito's posture.

The images are good, but his same posture is disturbing. I went to check back if I had further pictures in which he looks different but, as I expected, he stood is the same position in every frames.

The other option would be replacing his portrait.

I quite like this version as well, but most of the people I have asked told me that the other picture is better. I think that the headshot is good, but the other picture breaks the sequence much better.
In fact, if I would use the first image, it would look similar to the next portrait in the book:
Another thing we have discussed in class, is the choice concerning the design of my back cover.
This was my latest design:

I found the choice of including a framed picture in the back cover a popular solution in contemporary documentary photography book, and I quite like it. Especially, I really like the different materials and layers, like the cloth and the black borders framing the image in a window. Not everybody agreed with me; some suggested a simple plain back.
I believe that my initial design would be much more appreciable in a physical book, where you have a tactile sensation which accompany the aesthetic, however I still like the idea of a picture in the back and I tried different designs.

First of all, a darker background works much better. Also the plain back looks good, but I think it would be too repetitive after the gray end pages and, most of all, the picture of the sea water that hits the shore has a meaning as the conclusion of my book. It gives the sensation of a repetitive never-ending process and recalls the images of the people crossing the sea and reaching the coast.
Finally, this is the solution that I prefer:
