Color gels - Studio practice

Yesterday I spent some hours in the black studio experimenting with color gels. I have watched some tutorials and I tried different techniques.

Here I have used two lights set at the same power and at equal distance from the subject.

Then I tried to lit the background with a different color and use a single light for the subject, this time I have also used softboxes.

In the last setting I have positioned the two softboxes extremely close to the subject.

I have also tried another setting, using a single light without a softbox, but the lighting was extremely harsh and I was not happy with the result.
